Dear souls of needle and thread,
Let’s talk about something many of us have on our “I really want to try this” list—embroidering on a simple T-shirt. It sounds easy, doesn’t it? A plain tee, a cute design, and suddenly you have something completely your own.
But if you’ve ever tried it, you probably know—it doesn’t always go as smoothly as we imagine. Stretchy fabric has its own personality. Designs can shift, fabric can stretch, and the final result isn’t always what we hoped for. I’ve had those moments too.
Over time, I started exploring embroidery beyond quilting, working with different materials on the PFAFF creative icon 2—some predictable, some not so much. And little by little, through testing (and yes, a few mistakes), things began to make sense.
This series on Quiltsocial became my way of sharing that experience. Not just the steps, but the small things that actually help when you’re working with knits. If T-shirt embroidery has been on your mind, this might be a good place to start—calmly, without pressure, and with a bit more confidence.

Here’s a quick look at what I shared.
1. Getting Started: Embroidery on Stretch Fabrics
Every project feels easier when you understand the foundation. In this post, I walk through the basics what to prepare, what to watch for, and how to approach stretch fabrics without overthinking it.

3. Adding Text on Knits
Lettering on stretchy fabric needs a bit of extra care. In this post, I go through how to keep text clean, readable, and nicely balanced on a T-shirt.
